Jobs and the Economy
Industry serves as one of our area's strongest economic engines. Industry in the Golden Triangle provides more than 20,000 jobs in our community and pays nearly $1 billion in salaries. These dollars turn over many times in our community.
Industry contributes more than $300 million in taxes and makes local purchases of over $773 million. We strive to support small minority owned businesses, assisting in programs such as the Golden Triangle Minority Business Council and Lamar University's Small Business Development Division.
Industry keeps our communities strong by paying over 70% of the property taxes paid to state and local governments. Our funding of local school districts has helped to develop an excellent local education system, which excels in developing future community leaders.
Our products go all over the world. We are a quality manufacturer of beneficial products such as gasoline, plastics, chemicals, pharmaceuticals and synthetic rubber. Our products are used to make other everyday products such as golf balls, auto parts, plastic pipe, toys, batteries, and cosmetics.
Interested in a job in industry? We are looking for talented, qualified people in our plants in such areas as process operations, engineering, accounting, information services and maintenance. These positions require anywhere from a 2-year associate degree for process operations to a 4-year bachelors degree in fields such as engineering and accounting.
